Meet Miracle Kid Kaydence!
Kaydence was born in Topeka, Kansas on June 6, 2013. In October 2014, Kaydence went in for her 15-month-old well baby check. The exam went well until the nurse practitioner examined Kaydence’s abdomen. When she finished, the nurse practitioner said that she was going to call the pediatrician for a consult. After an ultrasound and further testing, Kaydence was diagnosed with Stage II Wilm’s Tumor in the right kidney, the tumor on her kidney being the size of a brick. Kaydence was scheduled to have the tumor and kidney removed as soon as possible. This surgery was successful requiring no additional treatment at that time.
Later, at her 18-month oncology checkup, at the age of 2 and a half, Kaydence was diagnosed again with Wilm’s Tumor in her only remaining kidney. This time, she received chemotherapy for ten weeks, underwent a partial left nephrectomy, and additional chemo following surgery in order to remove the tumor.
Kaydence is currently a happy, healthy 11-year-old who loves to dance, go shopping, and is into all kinds of fancy face care! She will be 8 years cancer free this September (2024). If you didn’t know her history, you’d never know she had been through so much. Kaydence doesn’t remember the hard parts of having cancer and all that comes with it. Her memories from that time include blowing bubbles, making slime, going to the playroom, and other fun things. Without CMN, none of those activities would have been possible for her to access. We are very thankful to CMN Hospitals for supporting local kids!
